When we think of reaching the nations who’ve never heard the gospel, we often envision places beyond our own, thousands of miles away from hearth and home.
But what about the nations that are already here?
Our concentration on the far-off horizon can prevent us from noticing opportunities right on our doorstep. Living in America gives us the privilege to reside in communities with people from all around the world, especially scattered peoples from Unreached People Groups (UPGs). These are people who’ve immigrated to the US and hail from people groups with no access to the gospel.
By God’s grace, how can we live out God’s mission to reach these ethnically and religiously diverse communities?

*This event was started originally by the Women’s Missionary Society for women to hear from missionaries and then also take up a collection of money to send to the missionary families for them to use for Christmas. October was the chosen month so that missionaries have enough time to receive the money and use it by Christmas time.

Alex Kocman is the Director of Communications and Media for ABWE, serving in the International Headquarters. Previously, he served as Director of Long-Term Mobilization. In his current role, he serves as general editor of Message Magazine and the ABWE Blog and co-hosts The Missions Podcast. Together with Chad Vegas, he is the co-author of Missions by the Book: How Theology and Practice Walk Together. He and his wife Hanna, who formerly served in ABWE’s President’s Office, have three children. Alex, his wife Hanna, and three kids also serve at Faith Bible Fellowship Church of York.
In Hanna’s free time she loves spoiling her Frenchie, gardening, enjoying food around the table with good friends, and hiking with her husband and children.
Larry and Nancy Allen were called on the phone by Dr DeCook in 1974 to consider going to Bangladesh to open an out-patient medical clinic. They agreed and finally arrived in Dhaka on January 1, 1980. Never actually working in the medical clinic, they served as ABWE missionaries in Church Planting and Training Leaders until 2011 with a short 9 years in the Philippines (teaching at Faith Academy in the seminary; plus discipling leaders and starting a new church-based mission program). The Lord led Larry and Nancy to start three churches in Bangladesh—some of the disciples they trained are still serving the Lord. After leaving the field and doing a one-year furlough in 2012, they helped their children in Costa Rica while they studied Spanish. They moved to the Hatfield area to continue working with the Bangladesh people in the US. They did this for six years and retired in 2019, but continue to work with their Muslim and Hindu friends as well as new ones while serving the needs at Bethany BFC.
